Connect Codex to your Tentary account. You need two commands in the terminal, then you sign in with Tentary in the browser.

To learn what a connected AI app can do, see [Connect AI apps to Tentary](https://tentary.com/en/help/ai-overview/).

## Before you start

- You are the owner of the Tentary account. Team members cannot connect apps.
- Your Tentary account is activated.
- Codex is installed on your computer.

## Connect Codex

You need **both commands**. The first one adds Tentary to Codex, but does not sign you in. Only the second one connects Codex to your account.

1. Run this command in your terminal:

   ```bash
   codex mcp add tentary --url https://mcp.tentary.com/mcp
   ```

2. Then run this command:

   ```bash
   codex mcp login tentary
   ```

   Codex shows a link and opens your browser.

3. Sign in with your Tentary login in the browser if you are not logged in yet.
4. Allow access, see below.
5. Back in the terminal, Codex shows `Successfully logged in to MCP server 'tentary'`.

If you forgot the second command, Codex shows `The tentary MCP server is not logged in. Run codex mcp login tentary.` and `MCP startup incomplete` when it starts. Then simply run `codex mcp login tentary`.

## Allow access

Tentary shows the page **Codex wants to access your Tentary account**. Below it is a warning: **This app registered itself. Tentary cannot check its name, so only continue if you started the connection yourself.** This is normal for Codex. Next to **Sends you back to** is a local address on your computer (127.0.0.1).

1. Check the permissions under **The app may:**. All are selected. You can clear some, but at least one must stay.
2. Click **Allow access**.

Then you get the email **New app connected to your Tentary account**, and Codex shows on the page **AI & API** under **Connected apps**.

| Permission | What it allows |
| --- | --- |
| See your products, orders, customers and revenue | Look up everything and send feedback to Tentary |
| Change products, prices, courses, coupons and your shop | Change products, courses, coupons, HTML landing pages and legal texts |
| Change customer data and give customers access | Give and remove access to products |
| Write emails and campaigns (sending always needs your confirmation) | Write campaigns and automations |
| Refunds and subscription cancellations (always need your confirmation) | Refund orders, stop subscriptions |

There is more about permissions in the [overview](https://tentary.com/en/help/ai-overview/#permissions).

> **Important:** Codex sends data from your account, including names and email addresses of your customers, to OpenAI. Check that this is allowed under your privacy policy.

## Alternative: with an API key

For scripts or a computer without a browser, Codex can also use an API key. We have not tested this way ourselves yet.

1. In Tentary, create an API key on the page [**AI & API**](https://app.tentary.com/ai). See [Sign in with API key](https://tentary.com/en/help/ai-overview/#sign-in-with-api-key).
2. Add Tentary to the file `~/.codex/config.toml`:

   ```toml
   [mcp_servers.tentary]
   url = "https://mcp.tentary.com/mcp"
   bearer_token_env_var = "TENTARY_API_KEY"
   ```

3. Set the key in your terminal or in your `~/.zshrc`:

   ```bash
   export TENTARY_API_KEY="tnt_..."
   ```

## What to ask first

- "How much revenue did I make last month, by product?"
- "Which customers bought my course this week?"
- "Fill in my legal texts with the Tentary templates."

Sending campaigns, switching automations on or off, archiving, deleting, refunds, cancellations and deactivating customers always need your confirmation in Tentary. See [The confirmation in Tentary](https://tentary.com/en/help/ai-overview/#the-confirmation-in-tentary).

## Disconnect

In Tentary, open the page [**AI & API**](https://app.tentary.com/ai) and under **Connected apps** click **Disconnect** next to Codex. Codex loses access at once. If you use an API key, click **Revoke** under **API keys** instead.

> **Note:** The commands of Codex can change. We last checked this guide on 26 October 2026 with Codex CLI 0.134.
